        Admin Fundamentals Part I: Knowing Your Roles

        If your company is an enterprise in a high process industry, you probably know that your applications require extensive role-based functionality. This may include access to certain fields at specific points in your workflow, the ability to re-open closed records, the ability to modify the screen layout, etc. Separating functions and data into roles and reporting authorities will allow you to have complete control over what users can see and the tasks they’re allowed to perform.

        While a lot of information is sensitive and should only be accessed by appropriate individuals, there is some data can be very powerful and help improve your business if everyone has access to it – but how you decide to configure this is completely up to you.

        In this article we’re going to dive into the various DevonWay roles.

        Standard vs Customized Roles

        Every DevonWay deployment comes with a set of standard roles, such as Subscriber, Administrator, and sometimes Super Administrator.

        Besides standard roles, most of your available roles will likely be customized and will depend on the applications you have installed.

        Admin vs User Roles

        Administrators have a green text folder on their dashboards where they can access all their tools:

        Admins can assign roles to users, and for each role, which reporting authority it relates to. They can also create new users and search for both active and inactive users. Admins can reactivate users who have been locked out due to many invalid password attempts and can also reset passwords.
